Fed Up

I failed miserable to take pictures this weekend but we did mange to watch Fed Up on NetFlix and now I am second guessing everything I put into my mouth.

I don't think it's a secret that obesity is a huge problem in the United States, but I think we are blaming the wrong people. Well putting all the blame on the obese and not truly understanding where to point fingers.

Before watching this, I will admit I ate a lot of Mexican food and still wanted my ice cream which was not the best decision because it just made me feel even more sick while watching this documentary. I am disgusted with the food industry. I also thought obese children and adults should just workout more and watch their calories. I was so dumb and naive until this past weekend.

It's simple to lose weight right, calories in vs calories out. sadly, that is just the beginning of losing weight.

Working out, moving more and calories in vs calories out is just the beginning, it's where all doctors will start when you tell them you want to lose weight..

Sugar.. Sugar is the other side of this ugly truth that no one mentions.

This documentary follows obese teens who are on a mission to lose weight. They are eating all the healthy foods, low fat foods, serving sizes and moving. One girl even swims four days a week. The problem is they are not getting smaller, sadly their waist keeps getting larger and larger.

Who do we blame for this? The food industry. They removed the fats from foods and because of the taste and scared people wouldn't eat it, they added tons of sugar to it. The average american ate almost 17 teaspoons of sugar a day in 2008. We are only recommended 6-9 teaspoons a day. Think about that for a moment.

The documentary also hits home when they mention this generation of children are the first generation who will not out live their parents. With so many medical improvements each year, this is hard. Parent's aren't suppose to bury their children, their children are suppose to bury their parents.

With all that being said and watching this documentary, I am going to work harder on what I eat each day and my workouts. Since I watched the movie on Sunday, my eats have been pretty on point. You can follow along in my journey here or instagram

If you haven't watched Fed Up yet, I suggest you do. I promise you will think twice before picking up that soda and or candy bar. Also, you might even start reading food labels.

  2. I loved the documentary too. This country has major issues with food and how we categorize it. It's so sad when it's cheaper to eat junk fast food thank healthy produce.

  3. I haven't seen it yet, but I am definitely interested to watch it. The food industry truly is ridiculous and disgusting with the insane amounts of sugar and chemicals that the add to our foods!

  4. I must be behind because I haven't heard of this. I definitely want to watch it now! That makes me sick. It's really scary that our government/food industry can just do something like that without anyone knowing. I will say it again, fruit, veggies and meats are the way to go. As long as that is your main focus in your meals, you will be fine! (Of course, you can splurge every now and then.)

  6. Like a few others - I NEED to watch this. Definitely adding to my list of "to watch" in my planner. After I watch or read things like this, I too question everything I'm cooking and feeding my family, but then it wears off (I kinda hate that). I've re-read Skinny Bitch a few times and it minimizes my urge to eat meat (but I still eat it).

Do you have that same start-stop reaction with stuff like this?

  7. We watched this a while ago, along with Food Inc, completely changed our lives. We no longer eat junky processed foods, opting instead for organic fresh fruit and vegetables, and we only eat meat that has an organic label on it as well.

It's disgraceful what's happening to the food supply of the world, but one thing is very true, we do have all the power to change it by choosing not to purchase the garbage they are pumping out of their factories.

  8. We have been eating mostly chemical free for the past year. It is expensive, but worth it. We have been sick much less, and our whole family feels better!

  9. The food industry is driven by simple economics. They are going to make foods that people buy! Regulating the industry is not the solution. people must educate themselves and start buying the right products. If enough people stop buying the other products, they will disappear!

  13. My boyfriend and I recently watched this too, and it really did impact is greatly. I have always known sugar is bad but never considered to what extent. I've been trying to focus more on fruit when xraving sweets now, especially since I'm breastfeeding!

  16. I just watched this the other night as well and it really opened my eyes to the food industry. I don't understand why they must put such excessive amounts of sugar into everything we eat. I am currently completing my first Whole30 and it was great motivation. I am definitely going to be paying even more attention to what I am eating now.

  17. It is really sad and feels like fighting a losing battle, at least on a nationwide level. Sugar is in nearly EVERYTHING we buy, particularly cheaper products. Plus it's addictive on a brain chemistry level, so there is a lot going against anyone that wants to deliberately live healthier, let alone the people that aren't aware of all that's in their food. I'll have to check out this film sometime. I'm sure it's an eye-opener!
